Gender and Design Education (pdf)

Where have all the women gone?

In October 2020 we held a hybrid seminar on the development of architecture after 1908, when women gained access to the Royal Danish Academy of Architecture in Copenhagen. This seminar was part of our international PhD course in October and November 2020. We were joined by architecture experts Catharina Nolin and Tanja Jordan for a discussion of the overlooked role of women in Danish architecture history.

We plan to hold the course again in 2021. More on this later on the blog!

Want to know more about our international PhD course Architecture, Landscape and Gender?

This PhD-course was held as an opportunity to meet and share knowledge about theories, methods and practices pertaining to current research and to questions about gender, architecture and landscapes – but it also was an opportunity to discuss and reflect on experiences, structural concerns and challenges facing PhD-students as a group and as individual scholars. When we met on the first day of the course, we initiated discussions in smaller groups to let everyone get the chance to present themselves and their motivation for joining the course as well as to reflect upon what they would like to get out of the course. This formed the basis for the reflection papers, that the students worked on individually throughout the course.
